NYS Medicaid providers awarded DSRIP Design Grants

On August 6, 2014, NYS Medicaid announced awards of $21.6 million dollars in DSRIP Design Grants to Performing Provider Systems (PPS) in New York State to develop comprehensive DSRIP Project Plans. Performing Provider Systems in New York City were awarded a total of $7.8 million. Applicants from the city were awarded about half of the total grants, but only 36% of the funding. Long Island PPSs received $2.3 million, as did systems based in Westchester. The Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Program - or DSRIP, is a new incentive payment model designed to restructure delivery of care while reducing unnecessary hospital admissions by 25%.

Final State Budget Funds New York's Electronic Health Records System

The New York State Legislature voted to support New York’s electronic health records system – known as the Statewide Health Information Network of New York (the SHIN-NY). The final New York State Fiscal Year 2014-15 Budget includes $55M in State funding for the SHIN-NY, which will go towards building an innovative, public network in New York designed to give doctors and patients instant access to their complete health records, anywhere and anytime. New York has been at the forefront of health innovation and will now be the first large state in the country to build a public network of interconnected electronic health records of this kind.

ER Physician Makes Compelling Case for Legislature to Approve Funding for Health Information Exchange in New York

Dr. Lewis Marshall, Chairman, Ambulatory Care and Community Health at Brookdale University Hospital, has contributed an article to the New York Daily News describing uses of and the need for health information exchange. Describing incidents where using BHIX has directly impacted the ability of Brookdale University Hospital’s ER staff to treat patients, Dr. Marshall urges the State Legistlature to approve the Governor’s budget for the Statewide Health Information Network.
