The Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) has received over $12.7 million in funding from the state of New York for two projects that will help people navigate the health care environment and bring more clinicians into the electronic age of patient information.
With a continued focus on getting the right information to the right place at the right time, BHIX seeks to improve health care quality, affordability and outcomes for Brooklyn 's 2.5 million residents, while safeguarding the confidentiality of patient information.
“We are delighted the State has shown overwhelming support of our efforts to safely share vital patient information across the entire continuum of care,” said Pamela Brier, Board Chair of BHIX and President of Maimonides Medical Center, an early champion of the project. “The grants will benefit Brooklyn residents in many ways.”
It is often overwhelming for patients and their loved ones to keep track of the latest test results, medications and guidelines for care. With the BHIX program, up-to-date patient records can automatically follow patients to the next health care provider. This portability is vital for families coping with chronic illnesses or disabling conditions.
