Patient privacy is critically important to BHIX.  Relying on the guidance of the New York State Department of Health, BHIX has developed privacy policies that consider the patients’ rights and expectations while balancing the needs of healthcare providers in the community.

The most important aspects of the BHIX Privacy Policy are Patients ability to choose whether to allow a Participant to access key data for treatment and quality improvement purposes after being fully informed of the capabilities of BHIX. 

• Every patient has the right to refuse to allow the sharing of his/her medical information in BHIX.
• BHIX will adhere to state and federal laws and regulations regarding the privacy, security and confidentiality of Protected Health Information.

In order to effectuate its comprehensive privacy polices and procedures, BHIX maintains extensive safeguards to prevent your medical information from being obtained by others for improper purposes. Automated technology will verify patient permission to share information, as well as authorization of Participants to view information.  BHIX is committed to keeping your information secure and confidential.
