Providers and Organizations Overview

BHIX is building a secure electronic health information exchange that will enable Participants to access critical patient information from multiple sources across the continuum of care.

Information accessed through BHIX comes from an expanding list of Health Information Sources which will include Participants, other health care providers (such as doctors, pharmacies and clinical laboratories) health insurers and other health information exchanges.

Shared data currently includes:
  • patient demographic information
  • advance directive information
  • physician/primary contact information
  • allergies
  • medications
  • problem lists and diagnoses
  • procedures

BHIX helps a variety of Providers and Organizations:

Providers: Authorized individuals at BHIX Participating Providers will be able view key data elements from a variety of sources across institutional boundaries, assembled in a virtual patient record displayed through a secure web portal. As the clinical data elements in BHIX continue to grow, clinicians will be provided with additional critical health information, helping providers deliver optimal care to their patients while reducing inefficiencies.

Payers: Authorized individuals at BHIX Participating Payers will be able to view members’ clinical data in order to provide their members with better disease management services. BHIX policy strictly prohibits Payers from using data gleaned through BHIX for eligibility and underwriting purposes.

Employers: Good business relies on good health care, but costs for providing health care benefits to employees have skyrocketed. In its expansion phase, BHIX plans to provide opportunities for Employers to improve the health of their workforce. Likewise, BHIX will explore ways to give employees access to their own data and to relevant health messages through Personal Health Records in order to enable them to make better decisions regarding their healthcare.
